An Open Letter to the Students of UC Irvine from Dr. Michael Oren, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States


Last month, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, was invited to speak about US-Israel relations at the University of California, Irvine. During his speech he was frequently interrupted by hecklers and was forced to leave the stage for a few minutes before eventually returning and finishing his speech. Ambassador Oren wrote an open letter to the students of UCI  in which he recalls the importance for dialogue, especially on the frontlines of higher education and expresses his desire to return to the campus and engage with those students who did not wish to give him the opportunity to speak on February 9.

   

Israel’s BrightSource To Build World's Largest Solar Project in California


On February 22, 2010, BrightSource Energy, Inc., developer of utility-scale solar thermal power plants, announced the $1.37 billion in loan guarantees, that the U.S. Department of Energy has conditionally committed to provide to support the financing of BrightSource’s Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System.  
   

Update: Alert Cancelled - Hawaii on Alert for Tsunami


Update: Alert cancelled. The Hawaii State Civil Defense agency has issued a tsunami warning for all of the Hawaiian islands. Residents in low laying parts of the islands are urged to move to higher ground or inland. At 11:19 am local time waves are expected to reach 2.5 meters at Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii, and 1.5 meters at Oahu. These are not normal cresting waves and you are expected to stay away from the shoreline.
   

Israeli company weaves new jobs into North Carolina


Shalag and PalZiv are examples of Israeli companies that are investing directly in the US markets.Shalag is an Israeli textile company that produces nonwoven materials for dippers, wet wipes and feminine hygiene products, to name a few. The new manufacturing facility will be located in Granville County and it will create 100 jobs, with higher than average salaries.
