Some might find a city-wide request for clean socks a little strange. Netanya residents, however, found it artistic.

Local artists Yuti and Anat Shamai wanted to use their talents to bring their community together. To help them, the municipality asked all the residents for donations of clean socks. “We decided to choose a material that is available in every household and that's how we came up with socks," explained Yuti.

The 12,000 donated socks were transformed into a beautiful and Guinness World Record-breaking mosaic to represent the tapestry of their community. The mosaic was constructed in the city’s Independence Square with the help of many local residents. “We made history with something that is positive, fun, and which benefited the people of Netanya," said Anat Shamai.
